On “Selfish”, Kanye re-unites with the late XXXTENTACION for a melancholic, stripped-back song about how one’s flaws, namely selfishness, and materialism, can damage a relationship.

X first sang a portion of the song during an Instagram Live from November 2017. A ten-second, high-quality snippet of X’s vocals leaked online on July 11, 2020.

The song debuted on February 22, 2022, during the live listening event for Kanye’s eleventh studio album, DONDA2. It is the second song on the album to feature X, the first being “True Love.”
